This is an agree to disagree blog site. I'm pretty sure we will not be able to change the opinion of the other authors, but we will have the opportunity to "fine tune" our political arguments to go after the weak undecided with our back and forth banter and opinion. The only rule is, no personal attacks...be nice to the person, but brutally honest about the idea.

12th Amendment: "But no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States."
according to the 12th amendment, the house should have picked the president in 2000...
The person having the greatest Number of votes for President, shall be the President, if such number be a majority of the whole number of Electors appointed; and if no person have such majority, then from the persons having the highest numbers not exceeding three on the list of those voted for as President, the House of Representatives shall choose immediately, by ballot, the President.
If only we lived in the alternate universe of Demolition Man, we could have Arnold as the VP.
Also, Bush won Florida. The South Park episode about this was very funny. Independent counts after the fact confirmed it. I think those are Electoral Votes they are talking about in the amendment. Am I right Brian? Bush won a majority of Electoral Votes in 2000.
You're right that the 12th Amendment refers only to voters in the Electoral College.
As for Florida, I think Gore won the state in that more voters intended to vote for him than Bush. Some potential recount scenarios give Gore more votes than Bush. Further, even Buchanan admits that he received hundreds or even thousands of votes in Palm Beach County that should have gone to Gore. While you could never change the final count on that basis, I think it's relevant to the discussion of who should have won that election.
